Technologist in business
Luc Steenwelle was a technologist. "After my study Food Technology at Wageningen University, I worked for years as product developer at Nutricia and later at FrieslandCampina Kievit. Really interesting work." But Luc was looking for some broadening horizons, some fresh knowledge. "I wanted to be able to approach innovation better and from different angles." An MBA at the Anton Jurgens Institute helped. And Luc got his new angle, as manager for FrieslandCampina Kievit. And he took it to Indonesia.
"I always dreamt of working abroad for a while. Preferably in Asia." Luc's wish came true a year ago when he could start as manager Research & Development in Indonesia. The emigration followed a year of searching for new challenges and an MBA at the Anton Jurgens Institute. "I wanted to develop further, discover new opportunities. I was ambitious, wanted to learn more about business, market analysis, marketing, and innovation management. I had an idea about how these things worked, but lacked theoretical foundation of my knowledge."
Spreading wings
A brochure of the Anton Jurgens Institute turned out to be Luc's ticket to new opportunities. "It was handed to me by a colleague after I told him I was looking for a Master where Food and Business come together. After an exploratory meeting in Den Bosch it turned out to be indeed the course I was looking for and I enrolled - with the support of my employer FrieslandCampina Kievit." The combination of fulltime job / family life / study was sometimes a bit taxing, says Luc. Especially when some subjects of the curriculum led more to a refresher of previously acquired knowledge than to new insights.
"Particularly Product Development and Technology were known areas to me, due to my previous study and work experience. But that was not a problem; it never hurts to dust off your knowledge regularly. I learned however a lot of new things at Nutrition and Business, and those subjects have helped me on my way and I now put them in practice almost daily. I wanted to know more about ‘the business' and there is no doubt the Anton Jurgens Institute has powered me. Enabled me to spread my wings. So my career could take a fantastic flight."
