New tastes and new knowledge

"I missed food." Up to three years ago Karina van de Goor worked as SHEQ- staff officer for a large healthcare organisation. A great, challenging job. But she noticed a hunger for new tastes and new knowledge grew in her. "I wanted to work with food again, be involved with food. Developing new products, tasting, smelling." The Anton Jurgens Institute stilled her appetite - with a wholesome, practical MBA.

After her study Food & Business at Hogeschool Zuid Karina worked for two food companies, followed at the end of the 1990s by care organisation MeanderGroep. "I drew up food safety systems and was responsible for all kinds of projects that dealt with food, health and welfare. Quite interesting, but I was hardly involved with food itself anymore. And I missed that, increasingly so."

Complete package

A talk with her manager brought her some perspective. "I was looking for something different, I wanted to bring energy to my work again, and in return be energized by it. Fortunately he understood and he offered me the chance to take up a study." Her search soon led to the Anton Jurgens Institute. "Well, they are the authority when it comes to Masters in Food and Business. The ‘complete package' in particular appealed to me. You walk the whole line: from scientific research to writing a business plan to marketing your product. Exactly the practical approach I was looking for."

The MBA went a lot deeper than general knowledge and skills. "The thing I appreciated most about the Anton Jurgens is the personal coaching. The course is not a standard package; there is a lot of attention to individual goals and ways to achieve them. Reflection is key. Sometimes even literally, in image workshops where you learn to present yourself." Halfway through her MBA she switched jobs. "I was going to finish the MBA first but I became so inspired. Now I work as product manager with Van Gorp Greenfood. A job that offers what I missed so much: being actively involved in food."
