Pre-course outline
Students are introduced to the basic concepts of strategic management. On the basis of various standard models they learn to analyse lines of business (for example food industry, automotive, pharmaceutical): ‘‘what is the competition up to?'', ‘‘how does the market develop?'' and so on. Based on these analyses students learn how companies could phrase strategic options.
In the second part of this module the importance of strategic flexibility gets discussed. Deciding what course to steer, was never easy. And in the future this will only get harder. How do you make the right choices in a rapidly changing world where competition continuously intensifies? A number of companies tackle these issues successfully and develop new business models (think of Nespresso, Senseo) that turn a complete line of business upside down.

Obviously the pre-course is founded on theoretical knowledge and/or theoretical models. But it holds a strong interactive character. By means of practical exercises we ensure the content of the courses is closely related to daily practice. Students will also work with so called mini-cases where they establish the link between theory and practice.
